It’s all in a canapé
Most parties we caterer opt to start with a canapé or three, served along with drinks while people mingle and talk after they’ve arrived or as they wait for the really special guests to turn up.
Although only small, each small bite is given as much care and attention as the meal itself, and here at Parties to Go we love canapés, not only because they look so fabulous, but because we just love making them.
Did you know the French started offering canapés to their guests during the 18th century? It’s a practice the English adopted at the end of the following century, and are we glad they did. A modern twist on the original French canapé is the amuse-bouch which literally means “mouth amuser”. The official translation is more delicately put – “palate pleaser” – which sums up these tiny delicacies perfectly.
The technical composition of a canapé consists of a base (for example the bread or pancake), a spread, a main item, and a garnish. Something like our smoked salmon and cream cheese blinis would be the perfect example of this. But over the years things have changed a little and anything from mini fish and chips to tiny toad-in-the-holes are now available. If you’d like some canapé inspiration you can take a look at our canapé menus. We offer not only a wide savoury selection but sweet options too, so there really is something that everybody will enjoy.
