Bigging up bowl food
If you’re a fan of Pinterest and Instagram, then these trendy and attractive bowls of food will be familiar to you.
However, after the announcement last year that Harry and Megan were serving bowl food at their wedding, it was clear that not everyone was as familiar with the term (or dish) as we are.
It’s becoming a popular choice for many events we cater, but, although it’s been around for quite a while now, there is some ambiguity as to what exactly it is!
So, what is it?
Larger than canapés and around a quarter of the size of a main course, this food trend is all based around a piece of kitchenware – the humble bowl!
Served in miniature or hand-sized bowls, it comes ready to eat with a small fork and lends itself well to easy to eat dishes such as rice, curry and pasta to name a few. The fun thing about bowl food is that it can be so versatile and is often seen as healthy and nutritious, offering the right proportion combination of veggies, protein and grains in a manageable portion.
You may be asking ‘what is so exciting about this?’. The fact of the matter is that bowl food is not only easy but also somewhat comforting to eat, making it ideal for a less formal feel to your party and larger events. The idea being that guests can stand and mingle while they eat. We like to think it enables people to continue being sociable and doesn’t interrupt the conversation – therefore keeping the party going!
Ironically, this is also the reason why some turn their nose up at it – especially at something like a Royal wedding, where formality seems to be expected!
However, making events a little less formal is growing in popularity, and the offering of bowl food as an alternative to a sit-down meal is becoming a real success.
We’ve served up bowl food on many occasions (well before the Royal Wedding too), ranging from corporate and network events, to weddings and Christenings. From Katsu curry to our very own fish fingers, we have lots of choices and you can take a look some of the dishes here. We’re always happy to tailor the menu to suit your tastes too.
So, if bowl food is something you’re considering for your special occasion or event, then please do get in touch. We’re always happy to help and make suggestions and we think you’ll be ‘bowled’ over by what we can do for you!
