News and blog

Here at Parties to Go we’re passionate about food and everything that goes with it. Whether we’re trying out a new dish or busy preparing a stunning menu for a fairytale wedding we love sharing our stories, top tips or just tell letting people know what we have been up to. So here is a little round up of what has been going on with us.

Bonfire Night Treats

Light the fire, don your scarf and mittens and grab a hot chocolate – it’s time to indulge in our bonfire night treats!

These beauties are the ideal way to celebrate the fireworks, and also get you in the mood for the cosiest time of the year. Here are five recipes we’ve put together for you to try at home – we’d love to hear how you get on!

Parkin

To give parkin its gorgeous sticky texture and oh-so-sweet taste, you’ll want to use a basic poundcake recipe (an equal weight of eggs, sugar, fat and flour), but switch out your typical caster sugar for something richer.

When making parkin, we find a combination of golden syrup and treacle works well. You’ll also need plenty of ginger. While you can always use dried, shop-bought ginger, freshly grated always goes down a treat (you’ll want a thumb-sized piece).

Once mixed, turn into a lined loaf tin and pop into the oven at gas 4 or 180C. You’ll need 45min-1 hour’s baking time but do keep an eye, as oven temperatures and cooking times vary.

Sausage rolls

You can make sausage rolls as easy or complex as you like – for instance, making the filling from sausage meat and mixing up your own pastry – but we find one of the most delicious ways to make them at home can be simply snipping the skins off a pack of sausages and rolling them in ready-made pastry (puff, of course).

Brush with milk or melted butter, then cook for around 30 minutes at gas 4/180C. You can also throw on some grated cheese for extra flavour, or why not mix a bit of bacon and onion in with the filling?

On the subject of sausages, chipolatas can also be used – though they do cook more quickly!

Yorkshire pudding canapés

Did you know that pancake mix is the same as yorkie mix? Whip up a batch, cook until crisp, then serve with a sliver of cooked beef, horseradish filling and crunchy mini gherkin for the ultimate bonfire night treats.

Here’s a reminder of the ingredients you’ll need for fabulous yorkshires, every time (courtesy of BBC Good Food): 140g plain flour, 4 eggs and just 200ml milk (plus a splash of oil for cooking!).

Mini sticky toffee pudding

Our Wimbledon caterers have covered these bonfire night treats before, so take a look at our blog here for more info on how to make this gorgeous, lavish puddings.

Gingerbread men

Get out your cookie cutters! Whether you’re after people or you’re fashioning a house, the recipe is the same: 100g melted butter, 3 tbsp honey or golden syrup, and 100g brown sugar. Then, simply add your spice, a dash of bicarb and around 225g flour before rolling and cutting. Pop into the oven at gas 4/180C for around 15 minutes until crisp and just starting to crack.

(By the way: serve these bonfire night treats with an orange muscat (wine) – we promise it’s a game-changer!)
